Whitecross Street is not only home to two great art galleries, it is also located close to some of the best galleries London has to offer. Here is a selection of just a few of them:

Guildhall Art Gallery

A beautiful setting for some wonderful works of art from 17th, 18th, & 19th and 20th century artists, including Constable, Rossetti and Landseer.

Host Gallery

Established in 2005 Host Gallery is home to the work of exceptional photojournalists, with work ranging from classical black and white reportage to contemporary mixed media.

The Barbican Centre

The Barbican is Europe's largest multi-arts venue with an impressive range of art, music, theatre, dance and education events. It is also home to the London Symphony Orchestra.

Victoria Miro

Located in an 8,000 square foot converted Victorian furniture warehouse, Victoria Miro exhibits work by contemporary artists, including Peter Doig, Conrad Shawcross and Turner Prize winners Chris Ofili (in 1998) and Grayson Perry (2003).

White Cube

White Cube was established in 1993 by Jay Jopling to show the work of British and other cutting-edge artists, from Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin and Sam Taylor-Wood, to Jake & Dinos Chapman, Antony Gormley and Gilbert & George.

Bunhill Fields

Small, wooded dissenters' cemetery in the city centre. William Blake, John Bunyan and Daniel Defoe are among over 120,000 nonconformists whose bodies are squeezed closely together.

Museum of London

London is one of the most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities in the world and the Museum of London tells its story. It is the single most important source of knowledge on the capital and is uniquely an international, national, regional and local organisation.

Temple of Mithras

This amazing ancient temple was accidentally unearthed as part of reconstruction work undertaken on Walbrook Street in the city of London after World War Two.

The Guildhall

The current building has stood in the geographical centre of the Square Mile since 1411. It holds the accolade of being the only stone secular building to survive first the Great Fire and then the Blitz. It's seen plenty of additions and renovations some easier on the eye than others but the Great Hall retains much of its original grandeur, including two statues of the pagan giants Gog and Magog.

The opulent interior is festooned with the shields of the livery companies and features memorials to prominent figures from Nelson to Churchill. It's worth signing up for a guided tour of the crypt, the earliest part of the building, which dates back to the 13th century.
